Our team is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal.
In this role, you will:
- Support two to three lawyers
- Prepare, file, and serve pleadings and court documents, including affidavits, briefs/facta, and disclosures
- Conduct legal research, note up and brief cases, using appropriate citation format
- Conduct conflict searches
- Prepare external correspondence for supervising lawyers’ review and approval
- Manage files, including responsibility over deadlines, file organization, correspondence histories, case progress, and billing
- Manage lawyers’ calendars, including conferences, court appearances, and CPDs/CLEs
- Attend conferences and court proceedings
- Facilitate materials preparation between the lawyers and the Director of Marketing & Business Development
- Facilitate billing, invoicing, collections, and expense reimbursements between the lawyers and the Controller
- Contribute to the firm’s business development projects, which can include some public speaking, and from time to time, attendance at off-site events outside of business hours
- Support other paralegals, legal assistants, and support staff in other departments, as needed
- Collaborate on, and contribute to, legal strategy with the lawyers
What you bring to the role:
- 5-7 years’ experience in civil litigation in Alberta
- Highly organized, efficient, and able to manage competing priorities
- Resourceful, take initiative, take pride in your work, and accountable
- Clear communication skills, articulating diplomatically and assertively via phone, in person, and Email/in-writing
- Transition well between collaborative projects and solo tasks
- Experience using Cosmolex preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Calendar, Word, Tasks, Excel, and Teams, specifically)
- Knowledge of Adobe
- Familiarity with the following would be considered an asset:
- WestLaw or Lexis
- Litigation experience in any U.S. jurisdiction, particularly federal court, or before the USPTO
